📖 About Sanskrit Spirituality
Sanskrit, the "language of the gods" (Devavani), is the mother of Indian spiritual literature. All Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Epics, and classical philosophical texts were composed in Sanskrit. Though primarily a liturgical language today, Sanskrit's spiritual influence pervades every Indian language and every Hindu ritual performed worldwide.
Sanskrit is the foundation of Indian spirituality. The Rigveda (1500 BCE), the oldest religious text still in continuous use, was composed in Vedic Sanskrit. The Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Mahabharata, and all major scriptures are in Sanskrit. Every Hindu ritual, from birth to death, involves Sanskrit mantras. The six orthodox schools of Hindu philosophy (Darshanas) developed their systems in Sanskrit. The grammatical treatise Ashtadhyayi by Panini (4th century BCE) remains the most complete grammar of any language. Today, Sanskrit revival movements, Sanskrit-speaking villages like Mattur in Karnataka, and Vedic schools worldwide keep this divine language alive.
